PRINCIPAL ECOLOGIST
Joe Rudolph, PWS
Joe is one of the original members of W2r and has served in key roles within the organization, including directing the Ecological Sciences team and leading our remote sensing program. He is passionate about telling the story of the landscape and helping our clients and their partners realize improved opportunities for watershed resilience.
Recognizing the role technology serves in the ever-evolving fields of watershed planning and reach-scale restoration design, Joe‘s methods for remote sensing and GIS analysis have yielded new insights into understanding the how, when, and why of ecological processes. His key areas of project work include developing adaptive management solutions for watersheds impacted by fire, grazing, and timber harvests; creating plans that uniquely pair stream/floodplain enhancement with hydromodification management; and tailoring effectiveness monitoring programs for natural resources and sustainable forestry practices. Throughout all of this work his underlying philosophy of achieving clarity in the data to decision making continuum benefits client-community conversations and leads to targeted and realistic project approaches.
Joe has recently presented at regional and national conferences on the topics of:
- Transitioning Urban Streams from ‘Drainage assets’ to ‘Blue-Green Infrastructure’
- Effectiveness Monitoring using Remote Sensing
- Geospatial Technologies and Ecological Applications
- Beaver Dam Analogues in the Urban Environment
- Tracking Trajectories of Fully Connected Floodplain Landscapes
