Derry Dell Creek Stabilization and Habitat Enhancement
An eroding outfall and areas of severe bank erosion on Derry Dell Creek degraded habitat and posed erosion threats to private property.
Given threats to private property, this project had an expedited timeline to which W2r responded by carefully planning staff resources and field work to ensure permitting was received in time for in-water work.
W2r used bio-engineering methods including a series of step pools and log grade control structures to stabilize the channel. Large wood and beaver dam analogue structures were placed into the channel to improve habitat and increase channel roughness, which reduces the erosive forces on the banks.
