Matthew Johnson, PhD

Research Affiliate, Geomorphologist with the University of Nottingham

Matthew is a contract research affiliate of W2r whose research focuses on the interactions between fluvial geomorphology, river hydrology and freshwater ecosystems. This includes the thermal dynamics of rivers at reach to catchment scales; the perception of fluvial environments by animals and how the environment transmits, masks, and filters the sensory information animals use to navigate and interact with other organisms; and quantifying the ecological and environmental impacts of pollution, including emerging pollutants such as microplastic fibres, and the identification of issues using biomonitoring techniques. Matthew is an Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham and he is published in leading hydrology, hydraulics, geomorphology and freshwater ecology journals.
